After Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential elections, the popularity of the social media platform Bluesky is rapidly increasing worldwide. Millions of users are joining Bluesky daily, leading to the platform reaching 19 million users globally.
In Pakistan, millions of people, including politicians, journalists, and prominent figures from various fields, have also created accounts on Bluesky. Due to the recent suspension of the social media platform X in Pakistan, Pakistani users are migrating to Bluesky on a large scale.
What is Bluesky?
Bluesky is a social media platform that was established in 2019 as part of Twitter’s research initiative, and it was opened to the public in February 2021. Bluesky is quite similar to X (formerly Twitter), offering direct messaging and video sharing features.
It is said that due to Elon Musk’s strong support for Donald Trump in the U.S. presidential elections, Trump’s opponents are leaving Musk’s platform. Additionally, newspapers like The Guardian in the UK and La Vanguardia in Spain have also announced that they will be leaving Musk’s platform after the U.S. presidential elections. The Guardian has stated that the platform has been frequently involved in promoting troubling content.
Some X users have stated that they will not leave the platform but will also create an account on Bluesky, as millions of people have already joined it.
