A social media star squirrel from New York, named “Pint,” was killed by the U.S. authorities.
According to foreign media reports, Pint had gained fame on Instagram, where it had amassed over 500,000 followers due to its playful antics and intelligence, which captivated people’s attention.
It was reported that Pint was rescued by its owner, Longo, in very poor condition, and had been living with him for the past seven years. Along with Pint, another animal named “Fred,” a raccoon, was also living in the house.
Pint became a subject of news when the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation raided the home and captured both Pint and Fred. The authorities explained that both wild animals were living among humans, which posed a risk of rabies transmission to humans, leading to the decision to euthanize the animals. Keeping wild animals at home is illegal.
During the raid, Pint had also bitten a government official.
