The United Nations has expressed concern over the unrest in Manipur, India, while human rights violations in India are nothing new.
The UN report raised questions about the ongoing ethnic unrest and human rights abuses in Manipur. The global peace body has strongly condemned human rights violations against religious minorities.
According to a United Nations report, there has been an increase in violence against religious minorities in India, particularly in Manipur. The UN says India has a history of keeping silent on human rights abuses, including the 2002 Gujarat riots and subsequent extrajudicial killings.
The UN committee also raised questions about the destruction of places of worship of religious minorities and private homes in India.
On the other hand, no action was taken against government officials who targeted religious minorities, engaged in hate speech and unleashed public violence against religious minorities, the UN said.
According to the UN, while India has admitted to rape and other crimes during the Manipur riots, it has yet to come up with any action plan to remedy it.
Global human rights organizations have repeatedly highlighted serious human rights violations in India, but the Modi government has remained stubborn and unmoved.
