The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has called for remote working and remote learning on Thursday and Friday as the nation braces for significant rain and storms.
Guidelines for all colleges and universities, as well as the public and private sectors, were published Wednesday by the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Agency. The head of each command then issues weather-related instructions in accordance with NCEMA guidelines.
The crisis agency announced that all employees, except those who must be physically present, will be subject to the remote work policy.
Authorities have recommended closing all roads leading to flooded areas to mitigate the effects of bad weather.
On Thursday, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation issued advice to private companies on how to implement long-term and flexible work arrangements. All private schools in Dubai and Sharjah were forced to offer distance learning on Thursday and Sunday due to the weather forecast.
The authority announced that distance learning will be implemented in the same way in all government schools in the UAE in two days. Important tests will still be given in person at some schools.

All civil servants in the emirate will work remotely on Thursday, except for positions that require physical presence, according to the government’s press office in Sharjah.
