Speaking at the Republican National Convention on Thursday night, former President Donald Trump described the assassination attempt he didn’t carry out a second time “because it’s actually too painful to say.”
The former president recalled the day of the rally in Pennsylvania — the crowd cheered and he took the stage. “Everybody was happy,” Trump said.
Then, just as he turned his head to see a large screen of border crossing data from his administration, he described hearing “a loud whooshing noise and felt something hit me really, really hard in my right ear.
Trump said that “very brave” members of the Secret Service rushed to the stage and “threw me for protection.”
“There was blood everywhere and yet in a way I felt very safe because I had God on my side.”
Former President Donald Trump formally accepted the Republican Party’s presidential nomination for the third time at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
Today’s speech is his first public speech since surviving an assassination attempt last week.
Trump defeated several GOP primary challengers and became the first former president to be convicted of a crime in May.
Former President Donald Trump mentioned his likely opponent, President Joe Biden, by name during a speech Thursday night, though he said he would not do so again.
“If you take the 10 worst presidents in the history of the United States, think about it, the 10 worst, you add them up.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has called on Democrats to drop “partisan witch hunts” against him.
As an example, he cited a Florida judge dismissing his classified documents case on Monday.
The judge found that “the prosecutor and the false documents case against me was completely unconstitutional and the whole case was thrown out of court,” Trump said.
He also noted the subpoenas his family members received from Congress.
“They’ve been subpoenaed more than anybody, probably every week in the history of the United States, another subpoena they got from the Democrats, crazy Nancy Pelosi,” he said.
Trump said he came through despite all the indictments and allegations against him. “The time you have to spend – if that genius was devoted to helping our country, we’d have a much stronger and better country.”
