Members of the transgender community in Gujarat staged a protest outside the Sadar Kharian police station, alleging harassment and abuse by law enforcement officials.
The demonstration, which turned into resistance, led to the temporary closure of the road leading to the police station.
According to reports, the transgenders, angered by the bad behavior of the police, attacked the station, razed their houses and even killed two officers.
Witnesses said protesters began throwing bricks and stones, destroying property and dragging furniture onto the street.
Protests by the transgender community allege that police are a pattern of abuse and harassment of colleagues. The allegations include harassment, physical abuse and verbal abuse.
However, authorities have conflicted accounts, saying the confrontation occurred during a routine search and escalated into a heated exchange between transgender people and officers.
Reacting to the incident, District Superintendent of Police Syed Asad Muzaffar took immediate action and detained the two officers and formed a high-level investigation committee headed by SP Investigation.
The DPO said that appropriate action would be taken against transgenders who should be vigilant despite the suspension of police investigations.
