A new study has shown that drinking elderberry juice daily can bring about positive changes in gut bacteria and improve metabolism for weight management.
The research, published in the journal Nutrients, found that consuming about 28 grams of elderberry juice daily for a week could alter the microbes in the gut and improve the body’s ability to process glucose and enhance fat oxidation.
This purple berry is found on the elder tree, native to Europe, which has been widely used for medicinal purposes and to boost the immune system.
Researchers at Washington State University in the U.S. say the other benefits of this fruit have not been fully understood. Patrick Solorsen, a co-author of the study, mentioned that elderberry’s commercial and nutritional value has been underestimated, and now we’re beginning to understand its significance for human health, with very interesting results.
