In response to the severe heat wave, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced summer vacation for all public and private educational institutions from May 22.
The decision came after a wide-ranging poll of parents, with 96% in favor of measures to protect children from extreme weather.
Announcing the decision, Rana Sikandar Hayat said in a video message that the health and safety of students is important in the current heat wave. He said parents were asked about their vacations and 96% wanted summer vacation starting this week.
“The welfare of our students comes first. Given the extreme weather conditions, it is important to take precautionary measures to ensure their safety,” he said.
He announced that summer vacation will begin on May 22 in all public and private schools. “This decision will not apply to schools where the exam will be held.” The schools conducting the tests have been given conditional permission to remain open only to complete this assessment,” he said.
According to the Minister of Education, the notification for early vacation will be issued today or tomorrow.
Earlier, the provincial government had announced summer vacation from June 1 to August 14 due to severe heat wave in Punjab Schools in Punjab will reportedly reopen on August 15 and the decision will apply to government and private schools.
In another announcement, school hours have been changed to protect students and staff from extreme heat.
According to the warning, schools should be open from 7 am to 11:30 am. This schedule is valid Monday through Thursday. This decision was made in response to rising temperatures in an effort to reduce the strong midday effect.
