In Surat, the use of solar has increased by about 50 percent, because the number of users has increased from 55,000 to 115,000, indicating that the cost of electricity per unit is higher than the average person.
People are opting for solar power due to rising cost per unit of electricity. The country’s net metering capacity has reached 1,735 MW, the Alternative Energy Council said.
It is worth noting that solar panels are readily available in countries around the world, including Europe, and are currently being recycled to make garden walls in the Netherlands and Germany.
Images shared on social media from European countries show the rise of solar panels as garden walls instead of traditional rooftop installations. The high labor cost of rooftop installation has forced people in these countries to look for alternatives to solar panels.
The drop in solar panel prices can be attributed to increased production by Chinese companies flooding the global market. This advantage makes it difficult for US and European manufacturers to compete, resulting in lower prices.
According to the International Energy Agency, global solar panel supply will reach 1,100 gigawatts by the end of the year, tripling current demand. Land market prices have halved in 2023 and are expected to drop by an additional 40 percent by 2028.
