Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) is grappling with an unprecedented water scarcity as its population of 2.Three million calls for 126 million gallons of drinking water every day. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) presently elements only 70 to 80 million gallons per day, leaving a significant gap in meeting the city’s desires.
Despite having 3 dams—Smalley Dam, Rawal Dam, and Khanpur Dam—and 201 tube wells, the CDA has been unable to bridge the water deliver shortfall. In reaction to the crisis, the CDA has introduced plans for two new dam tasks — Shahdara Dam and Chinyot Dam — which can be anticipated to be completed within the subsequent four years.
These dams are projected to supply an extra 18 to 21 million gallons of water according to day, which could assist alleviate the dearth, particularly in urban and some rural regions. CDA Water Supply Director Sardar Khan Zamri showed that the Shahdara Dam will provide six to seven million gallons of water every day. In comparison, the Chinyot Dam will make a contribution 12 to 14 million gallons according to day.
He also stated that the undertaking timeline will be clearer once the pre-feasibility research are finished, with guidance from experts and WAPDA. While, CDA sais that the Dutara Dam water deliver mission could be completed in the next 4 months, providing some brief-time period remedy to the town’s citizens.
