HYDERABAD: The Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), Regional Office Hyderabad, has assessed green spaces at the Sir Cowasjee Jahangir Institute of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences to explore measures for improving the therapeutic environment for patients.
The visit was conducted on the directions of Secretary Environment, Climate Change and Coastal Development Department Faisal Ahmed Uqaili and Director General SEPA Dr Ashiq Ali Langah.
The SEPA team inspected five ground-floor units of the institute, along with the Rehabilitation Garden and Urban Forest. The assessment focused on existing green infrastructure and possible measures to strengthen and expand natural spaces within the facility.
The team was received by the institute’s Medical Superintendent and staff. During the visit, SEPA officials held discussions with the management on developing more green areas to create a peaceful and supportive environment for patients receiving psychiatric care and rehabilitation.
The SEPA team included Deputy Director Abdul Rauf Qureshi, Assistant Director Noor Ahmed Nahyoon, Assistant Director Tufail Ahmed Abassi and Environmental Inspector Mohammad Saleem.
Following the assessment, SEPA will prepare a detailed report for submission to the competent authority. The report will be compiled under the supervision of Regional In-charge SEPA Hyderabad Ali Nawaz Bhambhro.
