RAWALPINDI: Authorities in Rawalpindi have placed emergency response departments on high alert following heavy rainfall across the city.
On the directions of the Rawalpindi Commissioner, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Rescue 1122, Civil Defence and other relevant departments have been mobilized to deal with any rain-related emergency.
Heavy machinery has been deployed in several low-lying and vulnerable areas, including Liaquat Bagh, Committee Chowk Underpass, Murree Road, Dhok Khabba, Circular Road and low-lying areas of Sadiqabad.
Authorities are also continuously monitoring Nullah Lai, which remains a key concern during heavy rainfall in Rawalpindi.
According to officials, the water flow in Nullah Lai has reached 24 feet at Katarian and 17 feet at Gawalmandi.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department recorded significant rainfall at several locations. 162mm was recorded at New Katarian, 156mm at Shamsabad, 155mm at Golra, 117mm at PMD, 89mm at Saidpur, 82mm at Pirwadhai, 64mm at Kacheri and 45mm at Bokra.
Emergency teams and field staff have been directed to remain deployed in vulnerable locations and respond promptly to any situation arising from continued rainfall.
Citizens, particularly those living in low-lying areas, have been advised to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel and follow instructions issued by the district administration and emergency services.
