ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned of thunderstorms, strong winds and rainfall across several parts of Pakistan from August 30 to September 4, with isolated areas likely to receive heavy downpours.
According to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) forecast, several districts of Punjab are expected to experience rain and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds. Rain is likely in Murree, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha and Gujrat.
Similar weather conditions are forecast for Sialkot, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Lahore, Kasur, Okara and surrounding areas. Most parts of Punjab, however, are expected to remain hot and humid, with daytime temperatures rising.
Rain Forecast for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may also receive thunderstorms, gusty winds and rain, with isolated locations at risk of heavy rainfall.
The affected areas include Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner and Mansehra. Rain is also expected in Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Kurram and Waziristan.
Most parts of the province are likely to remain hot and humid, with daytime temperatures expected to increase.
GB and AJK Under Rainfall Watch
Parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are also expected to experience thunderstorms, strong winds and rain, with isolated areas potentially receiving heavy downpours.
Forecast areas include Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Ghizer, Diamer and Astore, as well as Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Poonch, Bagh, Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimber.
Meanwhile, most parts of Sindh are expected to remain hot and humid, with daytime temperatures likely to rise.
NDMA Advises Precautionary Measures
The NDMA has alerted relevant departments and institutions to the anticipated weather conditions, urging them to take precautionary measures in advance.
Travellers and tourists have been advised to check the latest weather updates before setting out, particularly when travelling through mountainous and other vulnerable areas.
Citizens have also been encouraged to use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile application for weather updates and disaster-related guidance.
In the event of a potential flood emergency, the public has been advised to dial 911 for assistance.
