To boost polio eradication efforts, the Punjab government will set up polio vaccination counters at entry and exit points of the province.
Provincial Ministers Khawaja Salman Rafique and Khawaja Imran Nazir, Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman and representatives of other ministries attended the Provincial Polio Eradication Committee meeting.
Talking to the participants, Khawaja Salman Rafique said that all the provincial ministries will join the polio team in the field during the polio eradication campaign. Different strategies will be used in each district to fight the disease, he said.
He directed health officials and deputy commissioners to identify and overcome all obstacles that stand in the way of achieving the goal.
The participants decided to have polio vaccination counters at all entry and exit points in Punjab.
Officials at the conference pledged to use all means at their disposal to ensure eradication of polio and other diseases.
Khawaja Imran Nazir said health status can be declared to eradicate polio. He said that one of the main ways the disease spreads is through population migration. However, he assured that polio vaccination drops will be administered at entry and exit points for children.
According to the Secretary General, action is being taken against officials who show irresponsibility in eradicating polio.
