LAHORE: The Punjab government has stepped up efforts to finalize the proposed Punjab Climate Change Act, with a high-level meeting chaired by the Secretary of the Environment Protection and Climate Change Department (EP&CCD) to review the draft legislation and strengthen the province’s climate governance framework.
During the meeting, the Director General of the Climate Policy and Technical Cell (CPTC) briefed the chair on the progress made in drafting the proposed law, highlighting the consultative process adopted during its formulation.
The participants reviewed the key provisions of the proposed Act, focusing on strengthening institutional mechanisms for climate action and enhancing coordinated efforts to build a climate-resilient Punjab.
The Secretary, EP&CCD, directed the relevant teams to hold consultations with the Local Government Department, political representatives, environmental judges, and the Social Welfare Department to incorporate their feedback and recommendations into the draft legislation.
Officials said the wider consultation process aims to ensure that the proposed Climate Change Act is comprehensive, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of all stakeholders.
The meeting reaffirmed the Punjab government’s commitment to sustainable development, environmental protection, and effective climate governance through a robust and forward-looking legal framework.
