LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that Asif Ali Zardari is their joint presidential candidate and her party will vote for him tomorrow.
Addressing a rally she organized for Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, she said political parties and their allies had decided to cast their votes for Zardari, marking a hopeful turnaround in the nation’s governance.
Maryam Nawaz expressed her satisfaction at the prospect of a political figure taking over the office of President, which she said would be a welcome change from the “constitutional violations that have taken place during the last five years during the tenure of Dr. Arif Alvi”.
Maryam Nawaz also acknowledged her good relationship with Asif Ali Zardari and expressed optimism that the tradition of using the presidency for political gains would end.
She highlighted the role of the president in facilitating governance through constitutional means and prioritizing the country’s interests, an area where outgoing president Arif Alvi allegedly failed, leading to a loss of public confidence.
She said that Bilawal Bhutto had stated that he had come to seek votes, but even without his request, PML-N would have supported Zardari.

“The collective agenda is to lead the country out of crises and the public is looking to them for leadership,” she said.
Maryam Nawaz also addressed the women of Punjab, confirmed her role as their Chief Minister and expressed her commitment to personally monitor the Ramazan relief package. She praised Fatima Jinnah and Benazir Bhutto as role models, the latter being not only the first female prime minister of Pakistan but also of the Islamic world. On International Women’s Day, she praised all women for their contributions.
