In a busy world, incorporating more movement into your daily life could extend your lifespan.
According to a new study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, being physically more active can increase your life expectancy by at least five years.
The senior author of the study and public health professor, Dr. Lennart Wermuth, stated that he was surprised to learn that the loss of life due to low physical activity in the United States is comparable to the damage caused by smoking and high blood pressure.
A 2019 study had previously shown that the risk of early death is lower in individuals who are more physically active. The activity levels of participants in the study were measured using accelerometers.
Wermuth noted that the 2019 study, along with others, has already shown that the link between physical activity and early death is nearly twice as strong in surveys.
