The Punjab Disaster Management Agency (PDMA) has issued a weather advisory for rain in Lahore and the rest of the country later this month, raising concerns about a possible heat wave in the southern region with increased heat intensity.
Light rain is likely in other parts of the state, while north Punjab will receive moderate rain, said a PDMA spokesperson. PDMA has urged farmers in Pothohar region of Punjab to take protective measures for their wheat crops in anticipation of rains.
In addition to the possibility of rain, PDMA said there is a risk of landslides in mountainous areas, asking for caution and preparedness of citizens and authorities. “The heat intensity will increase in May,” the spokesman said.
“The atmosphere in the southern part of the south can cause heat waves, especially covering the plains,” he said.
The press secretary also said that the big cities will feel the heat wave especially, while the Director General of PDMA has ordered to be alert to the weather conditions.
