The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is facing difficulties in finding a coach. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi wants a foreign head coach, but his assistants will be Pakistanis.
Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson was reportedly negotiating contracts worth $2 million a year, but according to Mohsin Naqvi, the deal could not be completed due to details emerging in the media. Sources revealed that the board also contacted former England coach Andy Flower, but he declined.
Islamabad United’s title-winning coach Mike Hesson also showed no interest. Moreover, Darren Sammy is under contract with the West Indian Board, so he was not available. Former Australian cricketer Simon Katich also declined.
Interviews have taken place with Justin Langer, but no positive response has been received so far. Interestingly, the authorities do not want to appoint their former stars to the highest positions. Sources close to Azhar Mahmood, who lives in England, and Saqlain Mushtaq confirmed that no contact had been made.
Additionally, the board also approached Matthew Hayden, who has been linked to the team in the past. It has been reported that most of the coaches are unavailable due to IPL commitments. However, the board is hopeful that there will be some positive progress next week.
