ISLAMABAD: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has accelerated restoration work on key highways in Gilgit-Baltistan affected by landslides and mudflows following recent heavy rainfall.
According to an NHA spokesperson, debris removal and clearance operations have begun at the bridge on the Gilgit side of the Jaglot–Skardu Road (JSR).
Heavy machinery has been dispatched from Shtut, with crews clearing landslides along the stretch between Kilometre 25 (Hanuchal) and Kilometre 16 (Ansar Camp) to restore traffic.
The spokesperson said that once the route is reopened up to Kilometre 25 (Hanuchal), work will commence on the Skardu side at Abutment-2 of the bridge.
Meanwhile, on the Gilgit–Shandur Road (GSR), machinery has been deployed at Kilometre 600+118, and the road is expected to be reopened for traffic within the next hour.
The NHA said restoration efforts are continuing on a priority basis to reconnect affected areas and restore normal traffic flow as quickly as possible.
