NEWLY ELECTED MEMBERS OF THE NATIONAL REPRESENTATIVE WILL TAKE THE OATH TO LOUD SLAMS
The Constituent Session of the newly elected National Assembly was opened by Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to inaugurate the new batch of legislators who started arriving in Parliament ahead of schedule.
The newly elected MNAs were sworn in by the speaker amid vociferous protests by the opposition legislators, after which they all also signed the registration papers. In addition, tomorrow, March 1, elections will be held for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Lower House.
After taking the oath, the Speaker first asked the Speaker and Deputy Speaker candidates to sign the list of members, which included PML-N’s Ayaz Sadiq and Awais Leghari. As per the official programme, the session started with recitation of Naat, Holy Quran and National Anthem.
After the national anthem, the elected MNAs of the Sunni Ittehad council gathered in front of the lectern and created a ruckus with a strong protest with slogans and chants. As a result, PML-N members also reacted by chanting slogans of “Ghari chor (watch out for thieves)” against the PTI and its leadership.
Members of the Sunni Ittehad Council carried posters of Imran Khan, while several leaders, including Barrister Gohar, were dressed in masks depicting the former prime minister.
On the consistent sloganeering of the PTI members, the speaker warned that they would be evicted from the House. After Nawaz Sharif signed his list of members, the Sunni Ittehad Council threw a copy of the program at him.
The Secretariat of the National Assembly also released the procedure for the vote on the Speaker and Deputy Speaker to be held on March 1.
To prevent any mismanagement, political workers were barred from entering the parliament.
