Karachi: Students of Pakistan’s New Engineering College have successfully developed Pakistan’s first electric car for urban use, named ‘Azad’. The car can be fully charged in a short time.
A team of students from Pakistan’s New Engineering College Karachi, launched in 2009, in line with current requirements to create Pakistan’s first urban electric vehicle. The ceremonial unveiling took place in a local hotel.
Special guests at the ceremony included MD Pakistan New Dielectric, Mazhar Mahmood Malik, who highlighted the team’s efforts. This 17th car, prepared by the students of Pakistan New Engineering College, can cover continuous distances of up to 200 kilometers after a short charge. The development of the car took about a year, materials such as metal, plastic, glass and, to a large extent, fiber were used for its construction. Special tires were also installed for smooth movement.
During the media interviews, special guest CEO Reza Iqbal Malik said that they have given the children a platform where they can fully explore their creative abilities. These kids not only prepare cars on commercial ground but also exchange new ideas with each other to express any technical skills. He said that an important and fundamental point of this is to find ways to solve other complexities, including looming expenses, in the preparation of projects.
According to the head of the electric car preparation team, Rahim Khalil, they have previously prepared various projects, including racing cars and other priority cars, which have been well received in various countries around the world, while an employee of the car company in the Philippines has been announced as such in other countries.
