KARACHI, August 31: Students at NED University planted trees on the campus as part of a sustainability initiative organised by Treow Carbon Solutions with support from Meezan Bank.
The initiative was designed to go beyond a one-day plantation drive, with participating students pledging to care for and monitor the trees throughout their time at NED University and follow their growth until graduation.
“Planting a tree is only the beginning,” said Mehboob Alam, Head of MEP-Engineering, Sustainability-CSR and HSE at Meezan Bank.
“Its real value comes from the responsibility that follows. By involving students in the continued care of these trees, we are encouraging a stronger sense of ownership and environmental responsibility,” he said.
Treow Carbon Solutions worked with NED University to plan the activity and establish a structured approach for the ongoing care of the trees.
The organisation’s approach focuses on factors considered important for tree survival, including appropriate species selection, soil preparation, proper planting, watering and regular monitoring.
“For the students, these trees are a lasting reminder of their time at NED,” said Mudabbir Maajid, Co-founder of Treow Carbon Solutions.
“When they graduate, we hope they will see how their continued care has contributed to a greener university campus,” he added.
The collaboration between NED University, Treow Carbon Solutions, Meezan Bank and the participating students highlights an approach to campus greening that combines technical planning with shared responsibility and extends beyond a single plantation activity.
