Nearly 5 million children out of schools in KP

Peshawar – Nearly 5 million children in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are out of school despite hectic efforts by the government.

The provincial education department recently revealed in a report that more than 3.67 million children in populated areas and 1.61 million in the erstwhile FATA are yet to be enrolled.

According to the documents, more than 2.29 million girls and 1.38 million boys are out of school in the populated area, while more than 360,000 boys and 645,000 girls are in the former FATA.

The ministry cited poverty, unemployment and lack of awareness as the main reasons why children stay out of school.

A report from the Department of Education mentioned to the secretary that steps are being taken to bring out-of-school children into institutions. A campaign is being launched to convince parents to enroll their children in schools.
