ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), on the directions of the Prime Minister, held a virtual meeting with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to review provincial preparedness and strengthen coordinated response measures for the 2026 monsoon season.
The meeting was chaired via video link by Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik and attended by NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement Minister Aqibullah Khan, Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, senior NDMA officials, PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, administrative secretaries, commissioners, deputy commissioners and representatives of relevant provincial departments.
During the session, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa presented a detailed briefing on contingency planning, resource deployment, emergency coordination and district-level preparedness.
Participants reviewed preparedness in areas vulnerable to flash floods, riverine flooding, urban flooding, landslides, Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) and other monsoon-related hazards. The meeting also assessed the readiness of district administrations, rescue services, emergency communication systems, relief stockpiles and evacuation plans for high-risk areas.
Dr. Musadik Malik appreciated the preparedness measures taken by the provincial government and directed all relevant authorities to remain on high alert in view of evolving weather conditions.
He stressed that proactive planning, rapid emergency response and effective public awareness were essential to reducing the impact of hydro-meteorological hazards during the monsoon season.
The meeting concluded with directions to hold coordination meetings at the district and union council levels to further strengthen preparedness, improve inter-agency coordination and ensure a timely response to any emergency during Monsoon 2026.
