Houston: Four NASA volunteers who spent a year living in a 1,700 sq ft space designed to simulate the Martian environment have now returned to Earth.
According to media reports, this simulated Martian habitat was created at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. Members of the Health and Performance Exploration Analog (CHAPEA) mission left the artificial Martian environment to a warm welcome from the citizens present, who greeted them with rapturous applause.
CHAPEA Commander Kelly Haston addressed the excited crowd saying, “Hi! It’s a really great feeling to be able to greet you all.”
Haston and three other crew members, Anca Selariu, Ross Brockwell and Nathan Jones, entered a 3D-printed Mars-like environment on June 25, 2023, to observe how humans might live on the Red Planet.
