ISLAMABAD: Moscow’s interest in Pakistan’s democratic process was underscored by the arrival of key Russian officials, Vladimir Chezhov, first deputy chairman of the Defense and Security Committee (Senate), and Igor Borisov, a member of Russia’s Central Election Commission.
In a post on social media on Thursday, journalist and analyst Ihsanullah Tipu Mehsud said: “Russian First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Defense and Security (Senate) Vladimir Chezhov and member of the Russian Central Election Commission Igor Borisov arrived in Pakistan to monitor the upcoming general elections: Russian Embassy in of Pakistan”
The arrival of the delegation signals significant diplomatic engagement between the two nations.
The mission of this delegation is to support growing bilateral ties and mutual interest in promoting transparency and stability in electoral processes. Their involvement is expected to strengthen international scrutiny and add credibility to Pakistan’s democratic exercise.

Yesterday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was visited by an eight-member election observation group from the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, headed by Chairman Andrey Maximov.
The presence of such delegations will also strengthen diplomatic relations through mutual cooperation and exchange in various fields, including governance and democracy.
