Islamabad: LUMS Pakistan organized the 2nd Symposium on Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) in Pakistan in association with Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, World Bank and International Finance Corporation (IFC). This year’s symposium, ‘Accelerating the Electrification Transition in Pakistan’, brought together senior leaders, policy makers, academics and industry experts. The event featured various speaker sessions and panel discussions on the progress, challenges and opportunities of electric vehicles in the country in line with global trends.
LUMS Symposium Chair and Associate Professor Suleiman Dawood Business School Shakeel Sadiq Jajja, speaking on the scope of BEVs in Pakistan, said: “Electrification of transportation has grown rapidly worldwide in the last few years. The main environmental benefits associated with BEVs are lower tailpipe emissions. and lower costs If vehicles are powered by sustainable electricity sources, environmental benefits will be fully realized, such as batteries, robotics and big data for the future of the economy.
The symposium covered key areas from the Electric Vehicle (EV) landscape in Pakistan to sectors such as demand, supply, charging and financing. The event also featured an exhibition of EV-related products and services. BEV has become a key platform for government and industry to promote value chain dialogue and collaboration.
Ms. Jen Jungeun Oh, South Asia Practice Manager, World Bank, said, “The EV Symposium brought together the key stakeholders of the EV ecosystem in Pakistan and created a number of beneficial activities. The stakeholders agreed on the need to act together. and the socio-economic importance, two and catalyze the adoption of EVs in commercial financing of three-wheelers and electric buses through risk-sharing tools to work with the EV ecosystem in this journey.
