LAHORE, September 14, 2026: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed judges of Punjab’s subordinate judiciary not to use green registration plates, blue lights or any markings on their personal vehicles that could create the impression that they are official government vehicles.
The directive was issued on the instructions of Lahore High Court Chief Justice Justice Aalia Neelum following the monetization of vehicles provided to judicial officers.
According to a circular issued in this regard, some vehicles, despite being monetized, continued to carry features that could make them appear to be official government vehicles. The LHC has clarified that once a vehicle is monetized, it will be treated as a private and personal vehicle for all purposes.
Under the directive, judicial officers are prohibited from using green registration plates or any other plate indicating government ownership. They are also barred from displaying the Lahore High Court or Punjab District Judiciary’s monogram, logo, seal, sticker or badge on their vehicles.
The circular further prohibits the display of official insignia, flags or any wording that could suggest that a monetized vehicle is being used as an official government vehicle. Judicial officers cannot display their designation or status on the vehicle either.
The use of blue lights, beacons, revolving lights and flashers on monetized vehicles has also been prohibited. The directive makes clear that even keeping a blue or emergency light inside the vehicle will not be permitted.
The LHC has emphasised that the appearance of a monetized vehicle must not, under any circumstances, indicate or suggest that it is an official government vehicle.
The court has warned that violations of the directive will be taken seriously. Any violation by a judicial officer will be reported to the relevant authority for appropriate action.
