GILGIT, September 14, 2026: Gilgit-Baltistan is set to expand its clean energy capacity through a 100-megawatt Distributed Solar Power Project being implemented under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).
The project, with a total investment of Rs24.957 billion, aims to provide cleaner and more reliable electricity to communities, businesses and essential services across all 13 districts of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The three-year project will be implemented in three phases. Under Phase I, 18.96MW of solar power will be developed for Skardu. Phase II will provide 47MW for Gilgit, Diamer and Hunza, while Phase III will allocate 16.1MW to the remaining districts.
The distributed nature of the project is expected to support more reliable local electricity supply while increasing the use of renewable energy in the mountainous region.
Beyond expanding clean power generation, the initiative is expected to contribute to improved public services, support local businesses and strengthen economic opportunities for communities across Gilgit-Baltistan.
The project represents a significant investment in renewable energy infrastructure and could help the region move towards a more sustainable and resilient energy future while reducing reliance on conventional sources of electricity.
