Lahore Smog Crisis: Are Schools About to Close?

Air Quality Index Reaches 358 as Concerns Grow Over Children’s Health; No Official School Closure Announcement Yet

LAHORE: Rising smog and hazardous air pollution in Lahore have intensified concerns about the health of schoolchildren, raising questions about whether the government may decide to close educational institutions or change school timings.

According to a report published by 24 News Urdu, Lahore’s Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 358 in readings recorded at 8am, indicating extremely hazardous air quality. The report also stated that the concentration of fine particulate matter in the air had reached 254 micrograms per cubic metre.

The worsening pollution has raised alarm among parents, who fear that children travelling to and from school in heavily polluted conditions could face respiratory problems and other health complications.

Medical experts have advised people to take precautionary measures and use protective masks to reduce their exposure to polluted air.

Will Schools in Lahore Be Closed?

Despite the deteriorating air quality, no official announcement regarding the closure of schools or suspension of educational activities had been issued at the time of the report.

Authorities may consider measures such as temporarily closing educational institutions or revising school timings if pollution levels fail to improve. However, any such action would depend on an official decision by the relevant authorities.

For now, parents, students and school administrations are awaiting further instructions from the government.

Parents Urged to Take Precautions

As Lahore continues to face severe smog, families are being urged to remain alert to air-quality updates and follow health advice, particularly when children are outdoors.

Until an official notification is issued, school closures should not be assumed. Parents should rely on announcements from the relevant government departments and school administrations for confirmed updates.
