PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched a province-wide monsoon tree plantation campaign, with large-scale plantation activities planned across all districts through both government departments and private organizations.
As part of the campaign, the non-governmental organization Green Team Kangar Gali in Buner district has also started a tree plantation drive to help reduce the impacts of climate change. The initiative has received active participation from local youth as well as schoolboys and schoolgirls.
The provincial government has encouraged citizens to organize similar plantation campaigns in their villages and neighbourhoods and raise awareness about the importance of planting trees and protecting the environment.
The campaign is being carried out under Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi’s “Green Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Vision” and on the directions of the Chief Minister’s Adviser on Climate Change, Forests, Environment and Wildlife, Pir Musawir Khan.
Under the plan, suitable land is being identified in every district for plantation of tree species that are compatible with local climate conditions. These plantations are expected to create small but sustainable forests that will help reduce pollution, combat climate change, conserve biodiversity, prevent soil erosion and enhance the natural beauty of different areas.
Officials said the monsoon plantation campaign aims to build a greener, safer and more environmentally sustainable Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for future generations.
