Cultivation of the world’s most expensive mango, Miyazaki, has just begun in Karachi, marking an important development in Pakistan’s agricultural sector. Previously grown only in Japan, this prized fruit now finds a new home in the commercial hub of Pakistan.
Known for its distinctive red and purple color, ‘Miyazaki’ mangoes fetch a high price of US$800 to US$900 per kilogram in the international market, with an estimated value of US$250,000 to US$300,000.
At the luxury level, the price of this luxury mango can go up to $3 million per kg, making it a rare and elite commodity that is not easily available to ordinary consumers.
Pakistan is already famous for its diverse and delicious mango varieties like Chaunsa, Sindhri, Langra, Dasheri and Anwar Ratol.
Each of these varieties has a special place in the world market for its unique taste. The introduction of ‘Miyazaki’ mango can give a new boost to Pakistan’s mango production and improve the country’s position in the international fruit market.
A local farmer who successfully cultivated ‘Miyazaki’ mango in Karachi shared with Samaa TV Special Correspondent.
He emphasized the distinguishing characteristics of the mango ‘Miyazaki’, emphasizing excellent color, taste and value. Although usually yellow, these mangoes are rarely red or purple in color.
Farmers said cultivation has started as a trial run and initial results are promising.
With the successful adaptation of Miyazaki mangoes to Karachi’s climate, there is potential for greater commercial cultivation that could revolutionize the local agricultural economy.
