The Indian city of Mumbai will soon have a 300-acre amusement park, very similar to New York’s Central Park.
The Maharashtra government has proposed a plan to build the park on international guidelines and standards
Central Park in Mumbai:
The Mahalaxmi race track consists of 211 acres where 120 acres will be converted into Central Park.
According to the chief minister’s office, the government would provide the land to the Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), which will serve as the central development agency.
On Sunday, the BMC’s plan to convert the Mahalaxmi racecourse into a theme park received approval from the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC).
Reportedly, 76.24% of RWITC members voted in favor of the plan to permanently return the 120 acres of property they leased to the BMC over a century ago.
The turf club’s lease expired in 2013 and the BMC has offered to extend it for another 30 years on the condition that RWITC hands over half of the 211 acres of property it owns.
The Cabinet gave its approval for RWITC to get a lease of 91 acres of land. The lease will be renewed as directed and will continue for a further 30 years from the date of beneficial ownership.
