The increase in skin diseases in Karachi resulted in a significant number of patients visiting hospitals with complaints of skin diseases, ulcers, impetigo, and sunburned skin. According to the details said Dr. Behram Khoso, head of the skin department at Jinnah Hospital Karachi, the intensity of heat in Karachi is causing an increase in skin diseases. A month ago, the OPD was receiving 50 to 60 cases a day, but now the number of skin disease cases reported in the OPD has increased to 100 to 150. Excessive sweating in the heat affects the cleanliness of the skin, leading to clogged pores and infections.
He mentioned that there has been a significant increase in cases of fungal infections (ringworm), while drug resistance has been observed, meaning that drugs are no longer effective against skin diseases. Dr. Behram Khoso has also seen an increase in cases of ulcers, impetigo, and heat rash. A heat rash can become infected as a result of constant sweating, as the itching allows bacteria to penetrate the skin. In addition, cases of sunburn and acne are increasing due to the intense heat.
Medical experts advise citizens to practice good hygiene, bathe daily, wear light, loose clothing, avoid going out in the afternoon, and ensure that individuals with bacterial and fungal infections use separate towels and soaps to prevent the spread of infections within the family.
