After Eid, the number of indigestion patients increased in hospitals in Karawang due to overconsumption and misuse of meat by the public. Medical experts advise citizens to eat meat in moderation.
In detail, during the three days of Idul Adha, the diet recommendations of nutritionists were ignored by the public. Many families still continue with invitations and barbecue parties, resulting in excessive consumption of meat. This causes an increase in gastrointestinal diseases among them.
Hospitals in Karachi are flooded with patients complaining of stomach pain and indigestion. Dr Irfan Sadyki, head of the emergency unit at Jinnah Hospital, Karawang, reported that there were about 70 patients on the first day, 55-60 on the second day and about 60 on the third day of Eid.
Dr Imran Sarwar, director of the trauma department at the Civil Hospital, said the emergency department saw 1,000 to 1,200 patients over the three days of Eid, with around 35 people suffering from abdominal pain, nausea and diarrhoea.
Abbasi Shaheed Hospital Medical Inspector Dr Javaweed said, during Eid al-Adha, the hospital witnessed more than 600 patients with indigestion, acidity, abdominal pain and diarrhoea. About 20 patients were treated.
Nutritionists have expressed concern about the excessive consumption of meat during Eid, which they say is harmful to health. Residents are advised to eat no more than 70 grams of meat per day for a healthy diet. People with heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol are advised to eat beef with caution. Eating fish or lamb will be beneficial for such a person. It is also recommended to eat meat and salads, lemon juice, vegetables and fruits.
This cautionary advice aims to address the health risks associated with overindulging in meat during the festive season.
