ISLAMABAD: After the demand of HPG, it will be more difficult for students to buy books, notebooks, pencils, and pens.
Details show that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is calling for a tax on the books in the 2024-2025 budget. HPG announced in the budget that tax breaks for books and notebooks should be removed and taxes on sticky notes, photo paper and cardboard should be introduced.
The HPG also proposed to remove tax exemptions for textbooks, pencils and pens, and demanded taxes on various printed papers and journals.
Sources indicated that FBR officials will present the Prime Minister’s budget for the next financial year tomorrow. HPG demands fair tax collection from the privileged classes of Pakistan.
The International Monetary Fund, after talks with Pakistan, has indicated that the government of Pakistan is making serious efforts to collect revenue and the need to collect fair taxes from the privileged classes. HPG said a delegation led by Pakistani official Nathan Porter would visit Pakistan to formally request the new loan program. During the visit from May 13 to 23, extensive talks were held to improve Pakistan’s economy.
