Organisers informed the public that trapping, buying or selling wild sparrows is illegal and poses a serious threat to biodiversity. Citizens were urged not to support the illegal bird trade by purchasing caged birds.

They also appealed to the public to report anyone involved in trapping or selling wild birds by calling the Police Helpline 15 or informing the nearest police station. Where it is safe and lawful, people were encouraged to help secure the birds’ release while waiting for the authorities to arrive.

The campaign highlighted the important role sparrows play in maintaining ecological balance and stressed that protecting wildlife is a shared responsibility. Participants expressed hope that increased public awareness and timely reporting would help curb the illegal bird trade and ensure native bird species continue to thrive in their natural habitat.
