ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Health Minister Dr. Nadeem Jan emphasized the need to adopt a human development approach to fully utilize the development potential of Pak-China cooperation in various fields.
The Caretaker Federal Minister was speaking at a round table titled “China’s Economic Development: Opportunities for Pakistan” organized by CGTN URDU at a local hotel in Islamabad.
Dr. Speaking on the occasion, Nadeem Jan said that the heart-to-heart connection between the peoples of Pakistan and China indicates a win-win scenario, which is a positive indicator for the rapid development of Pakistan.
The Caretaker Health Minister said that Pakistan has the potential to increase pharmaceutical exports to $2 billion. He said Pakistan can take a leaf from China’s book to adopt policies based on consistency, responsibility and self-reliance to achieve its development goals.
But he said that Pakistan needs to consider the ground reality while setting short and long term goals. He said dependence on donors should not be an alternative and self-reliance and competition should be the way forward.
Political Counselor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Wang Shengjie, in his speech said that work on many projects under the Pak-China Economic Corridor is continuing in Pakistan. He said that development goals can be achieved quickly by adopting the phenomenon of “New Quality Productive Process” in which strategies based on innovative approach are preferred.
Mr. Wang particularly highlighted the potential for growth in Pakistan’s information technology and mining sectors.

He said that as a close friend and neighbor, Pakistan has the potential to be a major beneficiary of development prospects in China.
Other speakers said that in cooperation with China, Pakistan has the potential to elevate its IT, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, small and medium enterprises, agriculture, communications and other sectors.
