A new study from Canada reveals that individuals who require emergency hospitalization due to excessive cannabis use have an increased risk of death within five years.
Published in JAMA Network Open, the study highlights that the rising potency of cannabis products and their increased consumption present a significant public health concern.
This issue is particularly alarming among young populations, as the legalization of cannabis has led to its widespread commercial marketing.
Dr. Daniel Myran, the lead author of the study, stated that cannabis use is rapidly increasing worldwide, with more people consuming cannabis daily in Canada and the U.S. than alcohol.
He further emphasized that since excessive cannabis use is linked to a higher risk of early mortality, especially among young individuals, it is crucial to recognize this issue and take steps to address it as a public health concern.
