The Department of History and Pakistan Studies at the University of Home Economics has established the Helen Mary Roberts Chair for Peace and Conflict Studies. Brigadier Dr. Helen Mary of the Pakistan Army, who was the primary guest at the ceremony, formally inaugurated the chair.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Faleha Zahra Kazmi emphasized the significance of the new chair during the event, saying that it was established with the intention of advancing peace research on the university’s campus. Noting that “Pakistan is a peace-loving nation, and we take pride in having citizens like Brigadier Dr. Helen Mary, who are a national asset,” she underlined the importance of universities acting as peace ambassadors.
Brigadier Dr. Helen Mary emphasized in her speech the value of education in advancing peace and helping humanity. “Education is a means to become a better individual; it is not just about earning a degree,” she said. Humanity, education, and peace are intertwined; by valuing education and upholding peace, we can create a brighter future.
Additionally, Brigadier Dr. Helen Mary urged the people of Pakistan to support one another and cooperate in order to turn Pakistan into a light of peace. She reaffirmed the Pakistan Army’s dedication to promoting national development and peace with the backing of the Pakistani people.
