A recent investigation into an Indian perfume company has revealed findings that have raised global concerns about the quality of their products.
An Indian spice brand has suffered a major setback after the European Union’s Food Safety Authority imposed a ban on its products due to quality concerns. This powerful action is fueled by the presence of cancer-causing ethylene oxide in Indian spices.
The ban extends beyond the EU, with Singapore and Hong Kong also imposing bans on the popular Indian spice, citing similar health concerns.
Despite repeated warnings and a global reputation for substandard products, the Modi government in India has remained steadfast so far. In the last four years alone, more than 500 Indian spices have reportedly been banned by the European Union’s Food Safety Authority.
Apart from its sweet aroma, a number of Indian food products such as nuts, dry fruits and spices have been appreciated in the global arena.
Apart from food products, the issue has also drawn Indian pharmaceutical companies into international controversy. Tragedies such as the death of an African child due to contaminated Indian cough syrup show the seriousness of the situation.
Meanwhile, critics have accused the Modi government of ignoring health issues for political agendas. The accusations focused on increasing religious tensions rather than health-related causes.
