SKARDU, September 16, 2026: The Environmental Assessment Advisory Committee (EAAC) of the Gilgit-Baltistan Environmental Protection Agency (GB-EPA) reviewed the Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) report of the proposed Dolti Hospital in District Skardu.
The committee meeting was held on September 15 at the EPA Baltistan Region Office in Skardu and was chaired by the Director GB-EPA.
During the meeting, the committee examined key environmental, health and safety aspects of the proposed healthcare facility.
The review covered healthcare waste management, proper segregation and disposal of waste, fire and emergency safety measures, occupational health and safety, ventilation and indoor air quality, wastewater management and other environmental safeguards.
The committee provided observations, comments and recommendations for improving the IEE report. The proponent and consultant have been asked to incorporate the recommendations into the revised report.
The revised IEE will subsequently be submitted to GB-EPA for further review and processing in accordance with applicable environmental requirements.
Effective environmental assessment of healthcare facilities is important to ensure that medical waste, wastewater, air quality and occupational safety risks are properly managed and do not adversely affect surrounding communities or the environment.
GB-EPA continues to review development projects through environmental assessment processes to promote responsible development and stronger environmental safeguards across Gilgit-Baltistan.
