PESHAWAR, September 16, 2026: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has intensified monitoring of smoke emissions from commercial food outlets in Peshawar as part of efforts to control local sources of air pollution.
On the directives of the Director General EPA-KP, the agency’s Central Directorate Peshawar conducted environmental monitoring on September 15, inspecting 16 restaurants, BBQ and Tikka shops.
The inspections focused on smoke emissions and related air quality concerns from commercial cooking activities. Officials assessed the outlets to identify sources of pollution and check compliance with environmental requirements.
EPA officials said such preventive monitoring is important ahead of the upcoming smog season, when additional pollution sources can contribute to poor air quality and increase risks to public health.
The agency is also working to ensure that commercial establishments take appropriate measures to control smoke emissions and reduce their environmental impact.
EPA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said violations identified during monitoring activities would be dealt with in accordance with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Environmental Protection Act, 2014.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to controlling pollution sources, improving air quality and protecting public health through effective environmental monitoring and enforcement across the province.
