Traveling during the holidays is always a hectic time, but it can cause added stress for individuals with food allergies.
A new study published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology reveals that airlines often overlook requests concerning the health of passengers with food allergies during flights. Many people with food allergies have reported that airlines promise to take steps to protect their health but fail to follow through.
The report highlighted that over 20% of promises related to food allergies made by airlines were not fulfilled across different flights. Furthermore, 17% of the promises for allergen-free zones were not honored, and 23% of passengers were not provided with allergen-free meal options.
Study co-author Leon Mandelbaum stated, “We are not asking for the moon and stars from responsible authorities, we simply want a proper and safe journey, with a secure environment for individuals with food allergies before the flight.”
