In the quest to increase their social media followers, some influencers cross ethical boundaries and ignore social norms. A similar shocking incident occurred in Egypt, where a beautician took a disturbing step to grow her follower count.
According to international news agencies, the beautician began posting fake news on her social media accounts about the abduction of young girls and children, urging parents to follow her channels for updates. She claimed that an international, dangerous gang of kidnappers was abducting girls and children to sell their organs.
Within days, the beautician’s follower count skyrocketed a hundredfold, but it also sparked a panic in Cairo. The fake news about kidnappings spread like wildfire, causing widespread fear among parents and prompting the police to take action. Investigations were launched.
Later, the Ministry of the Interior’s inquiry revealed that no such gang was operating that trafficked children for their organs. When the police questioned the beautician about the source of these news reports, she admitted that she had fabricated them to boost her social media following.
As a result, the beautician was arrested, and a case was filed against her for fraud and misleading the public.
