EPA Seals Poultry Protein Unit in Burewala Over Smog Rule Violations

VEHARI: The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Vehari has sealed a poultry protein unit in Tehsil Burewala after finding that its emission control system was not operational, resulting in the release of thick black smoke.

During an inspection, EPA officials observed that the unit was operating without a functional Emission Control System (ECS), in violation of the Smog Prevention and Control Rules 2023.

Taking strict enforcement action, the EPA sealed the unit and stopped its operations.

Officials reiterated that industries and commercial units must ensure the proper functioning of prescribed emission-control systems and comply with environmental regulations to help reduce air pollution and smog.

The action reflects the Punjab government’s ongoing efforts to identify and control major sources of air pollution ahead of the upcoming smog season.

EPA officials made it clear: No functional emission-control system means no operation.
