The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has asked the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to increase the price of electricity by $3.41 per unit.
The proposed increase is part of the monthly revision of fuel charges for the month of May, according to the CPPA filing. The regulator will hold a hearing on the application on June 28.
In its statement, CPPA announced that a total of 12.26 billion units of electricity were produced in May. For that period, it was reported to be $9.12 per unit of power generation.
CPPA attributed the need for price increases to rising costs related to fuel.
