The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has invited its citizens to witness the month of Shawwal on April 8 and testify.
Tonight, the congregation will be called to look for the new moon that marks the beginning of Syawal.
All Muslims in the kingdom were advised by the Saudi Supreme Court on Monday night to observe the month of Shawwal. Anyone who can see the moon with the naked eye or through binoculars is asked by the court to come to the nearest court to testify.
In addition, the Supreme Court invited people who witnessed the sighting of the crescent moon to become members of committees formed in various regions to help in the cause.
However, astronomers doubt the possibility of finding the Moon due to various astronomical factors. According to astronomers, there is very little chance of seeing the Syawal moon in Saudi Arabia tonight.
This assessment allows for tomorrow, April 9, to mark the 30th day of Ramadan, and concludes that April 10 is the first day of Syawal and Eid al-Fitr.
In addition, Saudi Arabia has announced a paid holiday for public and private sector workers on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. The paid holiday lasts for six days, starting on Monday, April 8 and ending on Saturday, April 13.
