DG Agriculture Urges Farmers to Intensify Cotton Crop Monitoring for Higher Yields

CHISHTIAN: Director General Agriculture (Extension) Punjab, Abdul Hameed Gujjar, has emphasized that cotton remains the backbone of Pakistan’s economy, urging agriculture officials to strengthen field support and provide continuous guidance to farmers to improve crop productivity.

During visits to demonstration plots established under the Punjab government’s “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar” (My Farm, My Livelihood) programme in Haroonabad, Fort Abbas and Maroot, the DG reviewed the overall condition of the cotton crop and appreciated the efforts of field staff working with growers.

He directed agriculture extension officials to maintain close contact with cotton farmers and ensure regular monitoring of fields. He stressed the importance of timely identification and control of pests and diseases to safeguard the crop and maximize production.

Abdul Hameed Gujjar also met local farmers and advised them to strictly follow the Agriculture Department’s recommendations to achieve better yields and improve crop quality.

As part of his visit, the DG toured the CABI facility in Haroonabad, where he reviewed the institution’s performance, ongoing projects and contributions to agricultural development.

He instructed the relevant officers to further enhance the delivery of modern agricultural technologies, technical guidance and quality extension services to farmers across the region.

Director Agriculture (Extension) Lahore Iqbal Ahmed Niazi, Director Agriculture (Extension) Bahawalpur Division Muhammad Jameel Ghouri and tehsil-level agriculture officers accompanied the DG during the visit. Officials briefed him on the current cotton crop situation in the district, departmental activities and ongoing agricultural campaigns.
